The Council On American Islamic Relations (CAIR) is calling on the Biden administration to halt federal use of facial recognition software.
CAIR’s press release states in part:
CAIR-Washington, the ACLU, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Amnesty International, among others, urges the Biden administration to take three critical steps addressing the use of facial recognition technology by the government.
Those steps include:
• Placing a moratorium on all federal government use of facial recognition technology and other forms of biometric technology;
• preventing state and local governments from using federal funds to purchase or access the technology;
• supporting legislation that would codify into law the federal moratorium and place additional limitations on federal funding of the technology.
CAIR has never seen a law enforcement procedure or law that it didn’t like that is intended to protect the public from terrorism. CAIR is also suing the federal government to invalidate the Terror Watchlist and the No Fly List.
Halting law enforcement’s use of facial recognition will hurt public safety by eliminating a vital tool that can be used to surveil parolees convicted of violent crimes, repeat sex offenders, people on the Terror Watchlist and other hardened criminal offenders. Halting facial recognition technology will also remove an important law enforcement tool that can be used to assist in the apprehension of criminal offenders on the run.
99.9 % of Americans who have nothing to hide have nothing to fear from our government’s use of facial recognition technology. In fact they should feel safer.
American patriots cannot give up on calling upon the Office of the President regarding important issues like this just because Joe Biden is the president. It is STILL IMPORTANT to express our concerns and be heard. If we are silent then only the left will have a voice.
Florida Family Association has prepared a message below that you can post into the White House Contact Form. Please consider rewriting it in your own words.
I have learned that some groups are calling upon President Biden to halt federal use of facial recognition technology. I urge you NOT to take this important tool away from law enforcement.
