Is TBS reworking Middle Eastern comedy pilot, Chad, to eliminate concerns regarding anti-Islamophobe propaganda?

Florida Family Association reported on February 12, 2019 that TBS picked up the show “Chad: An American Boy” after Fox had dropped it.  Fox dropped the planned show after Florida Family Association launched an alert in February 2016 titled “Fox Greenlights Middle Eastern Family Comedy Pilot Starring Nasim Pedrad as Teenage Boy.”  The alert encouraged people to send emails to urge Fox officials to reconsider their decision to air the show that was likely to contain Islamophobia propaganda.  See Robert Spencer’s criticism of Chad: An American Boy at Jihadwatch.org.   Fox killed the program after receiving thousands of emails.

Various news media reported on February 11, 2019:  “TBS Lands ‘Chad’ Pilot from ‘SNL’ Alum Nasim Pedrad.   The article states in part:  “The single-camera comedy follows a 14-year-old Persian boy (played by Nasim Pedrad) during high school as he desperately tries to fit in, cope with his mother's dating life, and reconcile his cultural identity.”  Being a Muslim is the “cultural identity” mentioned in the article.

On February 12, 2019, Florida Family Association sent out an email alert titled “TBS decides to air Middle Eastern (anti-Islamophobe) family comedy pilot after Fox declined the show.”  The alert encourage people to send emails to TBS and WarnerMedia officials.  The emails sent to officials stated: “Chad appears to be styled like the TLC show All American Muslim that profiled only Muslims that appeared to be ordinary folks while excluding many Islamist believers whose agenda poses a clear and present danger to liberties and traditional values that the majority of Americans cherish.  The overwhelming number of Muslim families in America have an adult male as head of the household not a 14 year old boy.   That makes it likely that the show will not depict in any remotely realistic manner the way women are treated in observant Muslim homes.  Please reconsider your plans to produce this misguided show.  I will support efforts to influence advertisers not to support the show Chad.”

On April 24, 2019, Florida Family Association sent out a very similar email alert to the February 12, 2019 alert but added parent company AT&T officials to the list of officials to receive emails of concern.   The title of that email alert was “AT&T owned TBS continues plans to air Middle Eastern (anti-Islamophobe) family comedy pilot after Fox declined the show.”  WarnerMedia owns TBS.  AT&T owns WarnerMedia.

On May 15, 2019, Deadline.com published a report titled “Nasim Pedrad Comedy ‘Chad’ Gets TBS Series Order” that essentially repeats the February 2019 news of TBS taking on the show Chad but adds the project “has been reworked for cable.”  Don’t want to read more into this than there really is but Fox is the same cable television format as TBS so what has to be reworked to reconcile Fox version to TBS version?  Additionally, there was no report regarding “rework” in the February news report.  The “rework” comment only surfaced after Florida Family Association’s online campaign in April that targeted AT&T officials.  Hopefully, the show “has been reworked” to address concerns expressed to AT&T, WarnerMedia and TBS officials regarding any anti Islamophobia propaganda.

One would think that the Muslim community would be troubled by the show Chad because a female actress plays the male lead role in a Muslim household.

Florida Family Association will carefully review TBS’s new show Chad when it airs and respond if the show pushes any anti Islamophobia propaganda.

Until the show airs Florida Family Association urges you to send emails to express concern to AT&T, WarnerMedia and TBS officials regarding any anti Islamophobia narrative in the show Chad.

Click here to send your email to the AT&T and WarnerMedia officials (For Outlook and other email clients that require semicolon separation of addresses.)

This email will open in your email browser because AT&T and WarnerMedia officials are blocking normal form emails sent through the Florida Family Association email server.  If the above link does not open in your email browser or if the email is returned to you please prepare an email using the suggested subject line, content and email addresses provided below. Please feel free to change the wording.

Suggested subject line:

Many people will encourage advertisers to drop Chad if it promotes Islamist false narrative.

Suggested content:

The overwhelming number of Muslim families in America have an adult male as head of the household not a 14 year old boy.   That makes it likely that the TBS sitcom Chad will not depict in any remotely realistic manner the way women are treated in observant Muslim homes.   I will support efforts to influence advertisers not to support the show Chad if it pushes any part of the leftist and Islamist anti Islamophobia false narrative.
