Procter & Gamble advertisements stop airing on Al Jazeera America.
|
Procter & Gamble advertisements have stopped airing on Al Jazeera America. The company's advertisements for Gillette with Green Bay Packer Clay Matthews and Head and Shoulders with Pittsburg Steeler Troy Polamalu have not aired since September 30, 2013. It appears that the end of Procter and Gamble's advertising may have been tied to the end of the month.
Florida Family Association launched several email alerts and posted online articles that urged concerned consumers to send emails to Procter & Gamble officers, board members and officials of other organizations involved in the ads. The response to these email alerts and online articles was outstanding. Thousands of people sent emails.
However, Procter & Gamble continued to advertise on the network. Florida Family Association responded by hiring Aerial Messages, Inc. to fly a banner stating PROCTER GAMBLE SPONSORS JIHAD TV before the Green Bay vs. Cincinnati match on Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 9 am to 1 pm. Many people have nicknamed Al Jazeera America as Jihad TV. The Los Angeles Times reported on August 15, 2013 that “some derisively label the network ‘Jihad TV.’"
Florida Family Association was preparing an online advertising campaign to promote awareness regarding of Procter & Gamble’s advertising support for Al Jazeera America. The campaign was planned to start in October.
Procter & Gamble was the ONLY major corporation that advertised on Al Jazeera America during the first six weeks the channel aired Al Jazeera content. Florida Family Association will promptly restart the campaign if Procter & Gamble advertisements start airing again.
Florida Family Association does not advocate sending emails of appreciation to Procter & Gamble for two reasons. First, the company continued to advertise after receiving thousands of emails from consumers voicing concern. Second, based upon the first reason Procter & Gamble could start advertising again on the channel in the future.
