Robert Peters, President of Morality In Media, forwarded to Florida Family Association a complaint about an independent BP branded convenience store in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee that was selling pornographic magazines such as Hustler, Barely Legal, etc.
In January 2000, Florida Family Association influenced BP-Amoco to add restrictions to their marketing agreements that would prohibit independent retailers from selling pornographic materials. Altogether, Florida Family Association influenced twelve major oil companies to add these restrictions to their marketing agreements which prohibit the sale of pornographic materials at approximately 100,000 retail locations.
Florida Family Association reported the BP branded store to Kevin Russell, BP Regional Sales Manager. He promptly and efficiently replied with the below letter from their legal department which states in part “As soon as BP became aware of the activity at the Lebanon Site, BP notified the jobber to have any offensive materials removed from the retail site; and the jobber has confirmed that this has been done. BP will continue to be vigilant in its efforts to keep BP-branded sites free from sexually explicit materials.”
