Florida Family Association sent out an email alert titled: CEO’s last words demonstrate Disney’s misguided priority to patronize employees’ LGBTQ agenda over parents’ desire to protect the innocence of their children. The email alert stated in part:
The New York Post published an article on March 11, 2022 titled ‘I let you down’: Disney CEO apologizes over ‘Don’t Say Gay’ flap. The article states in part: “Disney CEO Bob Chapek issued a rare mea culpa Friday, following two weeks of criticism over the company’s response to Florida’s controversial ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill. In full damage-control mode, Chapek said via a memo to staff: Speaking to you, reading your messages, and meeting with you have helped me better understand how painful our silence was, he wrote. It is clear that this is not just an issue about a bill in Florida, but instead yet another challenge to basic human rights. He continued: “You needed me to be a stronger ally in the fight for equal rights and I let you down. I am sorry.”
Thousands of people sent emails to Disney board members that stated: Please make the innocence of children the priority over the personal ambitions of woke Disney employees. Disney CEO Bob Chapek statement on March 11, 2022 regarding the Florida Parental Rights In Education bill sadly made it clear that the woke agenda of Disney LGBTQ employees is more important than protecting the innocence of children. I urge the Board of Directors to lead Disney back to the basics of wholesome entertainment, stop taking stands for LGBTQ employee political agendas and produce neutral products that respect parental desire to protect the innocence of their children.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' solid defeat of Charlie Crist by 1.5 million votes (DeSantis 4,613,783 to Crist 3,105,469 must have sent a very clear message to Disney. Hundreds of thousands of Democrat and Independent voters in Florida strongly supported Ron DeSantis after he boldly challenged Disney’s wokeness. Similar strong support for Ron DeSantis’ stand on woke issues likely exists at the national level. Therefore, Disney’s continued woke advocacy would likely have serious consequences for the Mouse’s revenues and profit.
“Disney Board Fires Woke CEO Bob Chapek” headline read on November 21, 2022. The article reports in part: Chapek’s tenure was rife with controversy, including a high-profile conflict with Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis. When DeSantis and Florida Republicans sought to pass the Parental Rights in Education Act earlier this year, Chapek found himself in the middle of hyper partisan debates over the role left-wing ideas about gender and sex should have in public school classrooms. The policy — which critics dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill — prevents government-run school employees from talking about sexuality and gender to young children. But Chapek was so cowed by the woke employees at Disney that he publicly condemned the legislation.
Chapek also sought to incorporate depictions of same-sex relationships into children’s cartoons. Although these decisions might have been popular with top-level Disney employees and Hollywood, Disney’s customers thought differently.
In an April poll from Trafalgar Group, 68 percent of respondents said they would be less likely to purchase content from Disney after learning about the companies plans to incorporate sexual ideas into content aimed at children.
Disney stock was down $61 or 39% year to date on December 5, 2022.
